I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Right now, I am an Honor’s College student at the University of Arkansas. I am studying biochemistry on the pre-medical track. I have journeyed through my own mental health struggles with depression and anxiety. With proper treatment, I have been able to find peace with my diagnosis and live a fulfilling life. I lost my father to suicide in 2021 and have had to cope with the grief on top of my underlying mental illness. The grieving process has been a long and tough road, but I have had the opportunity to share my story with others. I want to be transparent with my story and mental health in order to end the negative stigma around suicide. In hopes of becoming a physician, this transparency has taught me so much about society’s views on mental health, and also how prevalent mental illness. I am very passionate about science and helping others and want to use my knowledge to help others. Suicide prevention is such a meaningful cause that really hits home.
