It is easy to postpone care until your body is different.
You may tell yourself you will buy clothes when your body changes, move when you feel less ashamed, seek care when things are “bad enough,” rest when you have earned it, eat when you feel more in control, or ask for support when you can explain your body without embarrassment.
That leaves today’s body carrying the cost of a future condition it has not met yet.
You do not have to feel good about your body to care for it. You do not have to love it, celebrate it, understand it, or stop struggling with it before it deserves basic support.
Care is not a prize for body acceptance. Care is what helps you live in the body that is here now.
If you wait until shame gives permission, you may wait too long. Shame is not known for generous scheduling.
The body you have today may need food, water, medication, sleep, movement, rest, pain support, clothing that fits, medical attention, hygiene, sunlight, warmth, cooling, a chair, space, a boundary, or less judgment.
Those needs are not canceled because you feel uncomfortable in your body. They are not canceled because someone else has made you feel like your body should be different before it receives care.
You are allowed to care for the body you have while still having complicated feelings about it.
Pick one care action that belongs to today, not some future version of you.
You do not have to make care beautiful. You do not have to make it symbolic. You only have to make it real enough to help.
Let this be enough for right now: I can care for the body I have today, not only the body I wish I had.
