OCD FAQs

Is OCD just being neat or organized?

No. OCD centers on distressing obsessions, compulsions, or both, and the degree to which they consume time or interfere with life.

Can compulsions happen only in my mind?

Yes. Mental reviewing, counting, praying, neutralizing thoughts, or repeating phrases can function as compulsions.

Why does reassurance sometimes make OCD worse?

Repeated reassurance can become part of the compulsion cycle by teaching the brain that uncertainty must be eliminated.

Can OCD improve?

Yes. Evidence-based treatment can substantially reduce OCD symptoms for many people.
