Chapter Guidelines

1. Welcome to Leadership

You Are the Storyteller, the Steward, and the Spark

Welcome to Project Semicolon’s Chapter Leader Program! This initiative was created to transform how we engage with communities around the world. By empowering passionate individuals like you to lead local chapters, we aim to foster connection, raise awareness, and provide resources to those who need them most.

Chapters are extensions of Project Semicolon—not independent nonprofits—ensuring consistency and alignment with our mission. You are now a part of something that has changed lives across the world, and your leadership will help shape its next chapter.

This work is deeply human. Whether you’ve experienced loss, walked your own path of survival, or simply believe in building a world where no one feels alone in their mental health journey — you belong here. You’re not expected to have all the answers. What matters most is your presence, your openness, and your willingness to create a space where stories can be shared, stigma can be broken, and healing can begin.

The semicolon is more than a punctuation mark. It’s a promise — that even when the story could have ended, it didn’t. As a Chapter Leader, you help others live out that promise. One gathering, one conversation, one walk at a time.

2. Role and Responsibilities

As a Chapter Leader, you are the heart of Project Semicolon in your community. Your role includes:

  • Raising Awareness: Hosting events, sharing educational materials, and engaging with your community to spread mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

  • Building Connections: Creating safe spaces for open conversations and fostering a sense of belonging.

  • Being a Liaison: Representing Project Semicolon’s mission and values while maintaining regular communication with the organization.

  • Organizing Events: Participating in global initiatives like World Semicolon Day and planning activities tailored to your local community.

  • Reporting Progress: Providing updates on events, outreach, and community impact.

3. Core Values and Standards

Each chapter must embody the organization’s values:

  • Inclusivity: Welcoming all individuals regardless of background, gender, race, or beliefs.

  • Empathy: Approaching conversations with compassion and care.

  • Integrity: Acting in alignment with Project Semicolon’s mission.

  • Unity: Staying consistent with organizational messaging and branding.

4. Community Engagement

Strong engagement creates lasting impact. Ways to connect include:

  • Outreach: Partner with schools, workplaces, and local orgs.

  • Support Groups: Host peer-led mental health support groups.

  • Awareness Campaigns: Use observances to boost visibility.

  • World Semicolon Day: Host events encouraging storytelling and remembrance.

5. Running Events & Meetups
