Young people are often the hardest to reach through traditional mental health campaigns. Many are more likely to spend time in online games than in school counseling offices or community centers. Gaming isn’t the problem—it’s an opportunity.
With Semicolon Play, we’re turning that screen time into lifeline time.
We’re inviting developers, creators, and gamers everywhere to join us in breaking the silence—and reminding every player out there:
Your story isn’t over.
At Project Semicolon, we know that to reach young people, we have to meet them where they are—and for millions, that place is gaming.
Semicolon Play is our bold initiative to embed mental health awareness, suicide prevention resources, and messages of hope directly into the gaming universe. By partnering with game developers, streamers, and platforms, we’re creating new pathways to support, especially for those who may feel isolated or unheard.
In 2022, we launched our first major collaboration with Respawn Entertainment to introduce a semicolon badge in Apex Legends. The badge wasn’t just cosmetic—it was a symbol of survival. It included a link to Project Semicolon’s story and resources, offering players both representation and a way to find help.
The response was overwhelming:
🎮 1.3 million players downloaded the badge.
🌍 Thousands visited our site through in-game links.
💬 We saw a surge in young people reaching out, sharing stories, and asking for support.
This success made one thing clear: the gaming world is not just entertainment—it’s a powerful channel for change.
Semicolon Play is more than a campaign—it’s a growing ecosystem of support, awareness, and connection inside the gaming industry. Through this program, we aim to:
Partner with leading game developers to create meaningful in-game items, stories, and experiences that promote mental health.
Collaborate with streamers, esports teams, and influencers to normalize conversations around mental wellness.
Provide players with real-time access to mental health resources, education, and survivor stories—right from the games they love.
Host virtual events, tournaments, and charity streams to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention.
Build safe online communities for gamers to talk openly about mental health, healing, and recovery.
Whether it’s through a simple badge, a powerful campaign, or a deeply integrated story arc—we’re proving that gaming can save lives.
